Fernando V. Abella, Jr. was born on Oct. 11, 1931 as the third child to a Spanish father, Don Fernando, and a Filipino mother, Carmen.
A budding entrepreneur, Fernando attended the University of the Philippines and was a member of Sigma Rho Fraternity. During his days as a young man, he also served as a runner for the Resistance Movement against the Japanese regime.
On August 12, 1955, Fernando married Patrocinio Napoli. During their 59 years of marriage, they lived in the Philippines, Chicago and Southern California. Fernando's legacy is carried on by eight children, 19 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. A man known for his love of politics, dancing, and philosophical conversations, he is also remembered by his smile and laugh.

Fernando's Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren: Glen, Charmie, Gail, Toni, Katie, Joshua, Patty, Alexa, Benjamin, Emil, Becky, Danielle, Isabelle, Olivia, Nathan, Melinda, Booker, Bela, Vida, Patrick, and Rachel.
Frances Alayu "Fran" Womack passed away on Sept. 7 at the age of 83. She was a resident of The Breakers at Edgewater and formerly of the Hyde Park area. Fran Womack was one of the earliest Filipino Americans who was born in Chicago to an Early Filipino Couple in Chicago (from Ilocandia). She was an active member of the Filipino American Community.
She is survived by her children Brad, Nancy, and Pete (Susan) Womack. She wasthe grandmother of Peter and Kristen. Sibling of the late Jane "Terry" Alayu and Ethel (the late Paul) Parisot.
Fran is fondly remembered for her love of shopping, cooking, and travel abroad.
Visitation Sept. 11 at the Curley Funeral Home in Chicago Ridge. Interment Private.
Elizabeth Solana died on Aug. 12. She is survived by her children Dave Liwag and Bridget Liwag. Lola of Jayson, Flordeliza, Divine and Amira Liwag. Sibling of Rodolfo (Julie) Solana, Adelbert (late Baby) Solana, Wilfredo (Rowena) Solana, Luzviminda (Hasimin) Jamarie and Flordeliza (Alfred) Goldaneh. Wake was held at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles. Interment All Saints Cemetery.
Dr. Nelson Blanco, Internist & Geriatric Specialist at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights, died of a cardiac arrest on Aug. 29. He was affiliated with St. Alexius Medical Center, Central DuPage Hospital, and Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Wake was held at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels in Roselle.
Fortunata Davantes, nee Rimando, 80, a long time resident of Chicago, passed away Sept. 9th. Beloved wife of Esmeraldo C.; mother of Judy (Jeff) Fedie, Juliet Davantes, Jun (Kris) Vasquez Davantes, Maria (Glenn) Dreiling, Bernadette (Tim) Heckman and John (Joy) Davantes; lola of Ana, Adam, Natalee, Jaden, Shea, Kyan, Jay, Josh, Jewell and Janelle; daughter of the late Rufino and Catalina Rimando; sibling of the late Joe (Mely) and the late Lita Rimando.
