Maxine Medina will be this year’s Philippine representative to the Miss Universe Pageant 2016 . The interior designer was crowned Binibining Pilipinas 2016 by Pia Wurtzbach, the reigning Miss Universe 2015 and Binibining Pilipinas 2015.
At the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Aug. 17, Medina was asked during the interview part, “What would you tell a 15-year-old girl who wants to drop out of school even though her parents can afford her education?
She answered that she would tell the girl to study hard because an education is something that will better herself and that cannot be taken away from her, according to an Inquirer News report.

MEYCAUAYAN, Bulacan—Actress-TV host Kris Aquino, youngest sister of President Benigno Aquino III, April 22 stepped on the stage to campaign for administration standard-bearer Mar Roxas and running mate Leni Robredo.
Kris’ star power could just be one of the extra push needed by the tandem, especially Roxas, who continues to trail behind voter preference surveys.
With only 23 days to go before election day, Kris vowed to campaign for Roxas and Robredo in every corner of the country.
Wearing a yellow shirt over a pair of denims, Kris again shared details of her family’s personal life to explain why she finally decided to campaign for the tandem of Roxas and Robredo.
It was Kris who introduced her brother before he took the stage.(PDI)

A Fil-Am PhD student and another student at the University of California-Berkeley allege that a professor, Blake Wentworth, got away with sexually harrassing them.
The Inquirer News report said that according to an investigation done by the The Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD), Wentworth violated harrassment policies. Kathleen Gutierrez is a third year PhD student and Erin Benner, who is working towards a masters degree, is on medical leave, the report said. Gutierrez is disappointed by the university ignoring her case.
Gutierrez and Bennet filed a complaint with the state on April 11. One of Gutierrez’s lawyers, Arabel Malinis, is has written a letter to the university demanding Wentworth’s termination.

Mikaela Irene Fudolig, a whiz kid who started college at an unsually young age, has chosen to go back to school.
Her age brought up concerns of her emotional development, but she has plodded through and said that she was “able to show people that it can be done,” according to an Inquirer News report.
She studied at the UP National Institute of Physics for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics at age 12. Then she graduated summa cum laude at the age of 16. Afterwards, she earned a master’s and a Ph.D degree. She taught the the University of the Philippines. She was a FulBright Scholar in Economics at the University of California-Irvine.
Now at age 25, her goal is to study law.
