UNITED METHODIST Church Bishop Emeritus Daniel C. Arichea Jr. delivers the homily during the memorial service for the late Rev. and Mrs. Guillermo Manuel Feb. 10 at the Himlayang Pilipino in Q. C. Rev. Manuel was born Feb. 10 while his wife, Esmeralda, on Feb. 12. The day of remembering was put together by their youngest son Gideon and his family. The couple had 10 other children--Nathanael, Guillermo Jr., Erlina, Guidomer, Elvira, Wilfredo, Ermelinda, Marvin and Samuel.


National PH Artist Napoleon Abueva, 88

Malacañang condoled on Feb. 16 with the family of National Artist Napoleon Abueva who passed away at the age of 88.

“Known as the Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture, he is remembered as the youngest Filipino to become a national artist, who shaped the local sculpture scene to what it is now, utilizing almost all kinds of materials indigenous or native to the Philippines,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

Abueva, he added, “paved the way for the recognition of authentic Filipino talent in the global art scene, with his works installed in different museums both here and abroad.”

In January, Abueva underwent blood transfusions and had been confined at the NKTI since then until he passed away on Feb. 16. (Nestor Corrales, PDI)

Ophelia A. Aduana, 86

Ophelia Abiera Aduana of Buffalo Grove passed away on Jan. 29. She was 86. Her native hometime was Pigcawayan. She is survived by her children Ven (Susan), Alex (Marisol), Cheryl, and Jasmin (Angelito) Cruz; grandchildren Sophia Christina, Venvictor, Maria Sophia, Michael, Patricia, Lianna, Victoria, Regina, Jared, Joseph, and Noele; great grandchild Ophelia; siblings and the members of the Faith Community Presbyterian Community Church. In her passing, she is reunited with her husband Pedro "Pete" Aduana and two sons Pedro Jr. and Oscar. Wake was held at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.

Jesus Q. Malabanan, 87

Jesus Q. Malabanan, 87, passed away on Feb. 7. He was the husband of the late Virginia. He was the father of Socorro (Willy) Mallonga, Maria (Tony) Tech, Jessie, Jr. Malabanan, Felmon (Monet) Malabanan, Andrew (Marie) Malabanan and Emmanuel "Noel" Malabanan. Grandfather of 16. Great-grandfather of five. Brother of Filipinas (Elmer) Guerrero and many other deceased brothers & sisters. Wake held at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles. Funeral held the next day with a procession to St. Isaac Jogues Church for Catholic Mass. Buried at Maryhill Cemetery.

Herminio Y. Panlilio, 89

Herminio Y. Panlilio died on Feb. 9. He was 89. He was the husband of Merle. Father of Rick (Jackie), Michael (Ruth), and Susan. Grandfather of Keith, Kirsten, Kelsey, Kyle, Tyler, Chewie, and James. Brother of Zenaida (late Camilo) Nisce and the late Larena (late Jose) Mariano. His wake and funeral service was held at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles. Interment private.

Julita Z. Trovela, 99

Julita Zornosa Trovela died on Feb. 7 at age 99. She was a native of Majayjay, Laguna. Julita was predeceased by her husband Crispin; was the mother of Mabel (Jimmy), Romulo (Nieves), Violet (Roman), Mennas, Marino (Rowena), Mariquita (Danny), Noel (Mariliza), Janina (Lee), and Adonis (Annie); grandmother of Oliver (Arnie), Vanessa (Mike), Sheila (Jerome), Celestine (Eric), Julian (Katrina), Zelig (Marissa), Maricris, Brian, Kevin, Matthew, Frieda, Noelle, Michael Lee, Brandon and Jason; great grandmother of Mariah, Neoxander, Mikey, Genna, Jericho, Astrid, Rixel, Camden, Amber, Lyla, Lorenzo, Damen, Desmond, and Calliope; greatly missed by extended family member Lou. Teresita R. Maglaya, 74

Teresita " Tessie" R. Maglaya died on Jan. 24 at age 74. Wife of Froilan Maglaya. Mother of Helen Grace and Giovanni Maglaya. Lola of Ruzzle Cablayan. Sibling of Catalina, Napoleon, Romeo, and Eva.
Wake was held Feb. 2 at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles. Funeral Saturday, February 3 from the funeral home to St. Isaac Jogues Church for a Catholic Memorial Mass. Interment Maryhill Cemetery.

Francisco Pagsanjan, 64

Francisco Sy Pagsanjan of Mundelein, Illinois died of a heart attack while vacationing in Manila on Jan. 27. He was the husband of 32 years to Rosario and his two sons Alex and Eric. Francisco, also known as “Chito,” was born in San Jose, Bulacan, Bulacan. As the youngest of six children, he is survived by all his siblings: Kinchong, Segundo, Nene, Juaning, and Sotero.

He attended the University of the Eastern Philippines where he graduated with a degree in Accounting and earned his CPA in the Philippines. Francis worked in the field of Accounting for 42 years before retiring from Jim Beam Global in 2016. Wake was held at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at St. Isaac Jogues Church followed by interment at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery.

Aurora M. Jimenez, 66

Aurora Lourdes Mabbun Jimenez died on Feb. 19. She was 66. She was the mother of 3: Lhouanna Lourdez MJ Castillo (Alfonso), Lhaima Lourdes MJ Laguatan (Ricardo)and Lhora-Lyne MJ Garcia (Peter). She was grandmother to 7. Wake was held at Drake & Son Funeral Home in Chicago. Funeral mass held at St. Hilary Church. Interment to follow at Rosehill Cemetery.

Jessie A. Magbanua, 62

Jessie A. Magbanua, 62, registered nurse for over 40 years, died on Feb. 7. She was a resident of Glenview, Illinois. She was the wife of Roberto, mother of Jordan. Sister of Erlinda (Paquito) Miranda, Myrna DelaCruz. Wake was held at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles. A final farewell held past her casket was held at the Funeral Home. Manuel O. Naanep, 77

Manuel O. Naanep of Skokie, died February 8 in Ocala, Florida at age 77. Mr. Naanep was a retired Mechanical Engineer for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was the husband of Francisca; father of Manuel Jr. (Lisa), Jeffrey and Johnathan; grandfather of Bret & Jordan.

Ronald T. Ausan, 49

Ronald T. Ausan of Skokie passed away on Jan. 9. He was 49 years old. He was the son of Viola and the late Dioscoro; brother of Diosely, Jonathan, Anthony, and Jocelyn (Ismael) Chavira; uncle of Christina and Eddy.
