Luis Udarbe, MD, 84

Dr. Luis U. Udarbe died on Jan. 6 at age 84. He was the husband of Levita P. whom he was married to for 56 years.

Dr. Udarbe began his career as a physician in the Philippines, until he emigrated to the U.S. in 1967. He continued to practice medicine as a General Practitioner in Chicago through his retirement in 1995. He was the father of Maria, Celina (Thomas) Gronau, Levita (Douglas) DiVenere, and Kara (Herdin); grandfather of Alexia Lee, Chloe Lee, Ivy Lee, Maxwell DiVenere, Ellery DiVenere, William Gronau, Lia Dinlasan, and Marlowe Dinlasan.

Wake was held at Modell Funeral Home in Darien. Funeral procession from funeral home to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a memorial mass. Interment Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery.

Felipe S. Billote Jr., 76

Felipe S. Billote, Jr., of Naperville, IL passed away on Jan. 16. He was 76. Felipe is survived by wife, Dolores; children Rev. Dindo Billote, Dr. Dinna (Dr. Albert Lin) Billote and Salve Regina (Christopher) Messina; grandchildren Nicholas & Peter Messina, Ethan & Nathaniel Lin; siblings Frieda (George) Robles, Leo (Minda) Billote and Fe (Artemio) Medina. Wake held at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Homes & Crematory with Funeral procession to St. Elizabeth Seton Church. Interment Private. Felipe led the Chicago area Gawad Kalinga Group. He and his wife Dolores were members of the Couples for Christ.

Salvador R. Borja, MD, 86

Salvador R. Borja of Clinton, IA, passed away Dec. 14. A Celebration of Life was held Jan. 15 at Prince of Peace Church with Fr. John Stack officiating. Salvador was originally from San Juan, La Union. Salvador was a 1956 graduate of UST. He practiced medicine in Sterling, IL from 1965-1973 and in Clinton from 1973 until his retirement in 2001, where he was the Director of Laboratory Medicine and the Clinton County Medical Examiner.

Survivors include wife Diana; children Kathy (Scott) Bartling, Kenneth (Jeanne), Kris, Kim (Amy), Barbara (Jason), Robert (Erin), nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and brother Cesar. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Elizabeth.

Ofelia S. Macapugay, 76

Ofelia Santos Macapugay of Katy, Texas passed on Jan. 22 at the age of 76. Fely migrated from her hometown of Muzon, Malabon to Chicago in 1976. She later moved to Texas. She was a United Methodist deaconess since 1967 when she graduated from the Harris Memorial College in Manila. She served at Caloocan, Tangos, Navotas and Taytay UMCs. A memorial service was scheduled for Jan. 28 at the Bellaire United Methodist.She was the eldest of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Arsenio Macapugay,founder of Methodism in Muzon, Malabon. Internment private.

Rev. David D. Rodriguez, 76

Rev. David de Leon Rodriguez, 76, died in Hayward, California on Jan. 9. A United Methodist minister for many years, he also worked at the Church Global ministries in New York. He was a pastor in Philippine Annual Conference area including at the Kamuning United Methodist Church in Quezon City before he and his family migrated to California where he also served as pastor of several UMCs.

He is survived by his wife Celia and three children and their many grandchildren. Memorial services were held at Mission Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, Ca. and at St. Paul United methodist Church in Fremont, Ca.

Josefita S. Mariano, 92

Josefita Sumilang Mariano passed away on Jan. 15. She was 92. She is predeceased by her husband Romeo; is survived by her children Maricel Reyes, Romeo Jr., Tessie Riegodios, Rolando, Ramon, Rodolfo and Anne Licaunan; survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Her wake was held at Simkins Funeral Home in Morton Grove. A memorial mass was held at Immaculate Conception Church in Chicago. Interment Maryhill Cemetery.

Augustus Hamoy, 52

Augustus Hamoy passed away on Jan. 2 at age 52. He is survived by his wife Linda. Father of Ian Christian, May Christelle, and John. Son of Nora (Nee Rosal) Mandat and Gil Bajamunde Hamoy. Wake and funeral service held at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles. Interment will take place in Dapitan City Cemetery in Dapitan City.

Christian B. Hamoy, 63

Christian B. Hamoy, 63, of Des Plaines Illinois, passed on Dec. 30 in Barrington, Illinois. Christian was born in Bacolor, Pampanga. She is survived by her husband Orlando and her sons Patrick and Michael (Bridget). Survived by her grandchildren Xavier, Florence, Peter, and Baby Hamoy (Due Feb. 1).

She earned a nursing degree from Pines City Doctors Hospital School of Nursing in 1977. She worked as a nurse for the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters in Northbrook IL for 9 years and as a billing specialist at two Chicagoland pediatrics clinics. Wake held at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home. Interment All Saints Cemetery.

Erwin L. Bactat, 61

Erwin Laureano Diric Bactat died on Dec. 31.He was 61. He leaves behind his family the Bactats, Flojos and Salomons. Wake held at Drake and Son Funeral Home in Chicago. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Berchman Chicago. Interment at Rosehill Cemetery.

Randy A. Cruz, 55

Randy Anthony Angara Cruz passed away at the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago on Jan. 8. He was 55.

He was the husband of Monina; father of Randolph, Angelina, Jessica, Elise, Andrea and Raiden; sibling of Rojie and Rolfe (Maria) Cruz; uncle of Rachel, Caitlin and Mason. Wake was held at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Chicago. Funeral mass held at St. Gertrude Church. Interment Maryhill Cemetery.

John V. Pena, 82

John V. Pena of Skokie died at the age of 82 on Jan. 13. He is survived by his wife, Carmen, and their children, Frederick, Jeniffer (Jay) dela Paz, Christopher (Lara) and Mary Joy (Darwin) Sicat and their seven grandchildren. John earned his engineering degree from FEATI and was an employee of various telecom companies including the PLDT. He was originally from Zamboanga City. Fr. Mariano of St. Peter Catholic Church offered a mass after which cremation followed through Haben Funeral Home.

Wenceslao S. Arceo, 88

Wenceslao S. aka "Willie" Arceo passed away on December 21 at age 88. Husband of Socorro; father of Efren (Maria Corazon) and the late Daisy and Edwin Arceo and Daisy A. Parayno. grandfather of Roderick, Ronny, Jr., Ronel, Caren Joyce and Jason. Great-grandfather of 6. Brother of 8 siblings. Funeral held at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home. Vivina Sagado, 68

Vivina Liban Sagado died unexpectedly in her home on January 5 in Des Plaines, Illinois. She was 68.

Mrs. Sagado was born in Tuguegarao. She graduated from college in the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Vivina immigrated to Illinois in the 1970s. At the time of her passing, Vivina worked at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago. Vivina is survived by her brother, Merlin Liban, sister Natividad L. Fontillas and sister Simeona L. Bulaqui. She is preceded in death by her brother Carlos Liban. A memorial/visitation was held at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Philippines.

Jerry P. Rimando, 67

Jerry Pulanco Rimando, a resident of Skokie, IL died on Dec. 31 at age 67. He was a retired mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service. Survived by his wife Zita; survived by children Paul, John and Matthew; brother of MaryLou (Ross) Del Rosario, Arlie (Elmer) Avenir and Imee (Arnold) Villanueva; uncle to many. Luzviminda S. Santangelo, MD, 64

Luzviminda, aka “Minda” Sunga Santangelo passed away on Dec. 16 in New York. She was 64. Minda was born in Sultan Kudarat, Mindanao. She is survived by her husband Col. (Dr.) Vincent and by her sons CarloVito (Danielle), Vincent, and Christopher (Shannon).

She is survived by her grandkids Remy, Jackson and Nya. She received her medical degree from Far Eastern University Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEUDNSMAF). Upon emigration to the U.S., Minda specialized and practiced in Pediatrics. She was also a surgeon. She was FEUDNSMAF Secretary from 2006-2014. Her memorial service was held at the R. Stutzmann & Son Funeral Home in New York. Cremation at All Souls Crematory.
