CHICAGO-Newly installed cardinal, Archbishop Blasé Cupich will celebrate mass at the ‘Simbang Gabi’ at Sta. Maria del Popolo Catholic Church at 116 N. Lake St., Mundelein, Illinois at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Cardinal Cupich started participating in this enduring Filipino Christmas tradition in 2014 shortly after he succeeded the late Cardinal Francis George. Pope Francis had installed him in the College of Cardinal in a ceremony at the Vatican on Nov. 19.
Two area bishops are also celebrating mass during the Simbang Gabi this month. Bishop Alberto Roxas will be at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 2626 N. Hoyne, Chicago on Dec. 15 at 7 pm while Bishop Francis Kane will be at Our Lady of Carmel, 708 W. Belmont, Chicago at 7 pm.
