Book event on "Lola's House" with Author M. Evelina Galang

The book event, "Author Conversation: M. Evelina Galang & Almira Astudillo Gilles for LOLAS' HOUSE," will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, 7:30 pm at the Women & Children First 5233 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60640.

Lolas’ House tells the stories, in unprecedented detail, of sixteen surviving Filipino “comfort women" of the Japanese during WWII.  M. Evelina Galang began researching stories of comfort women in the 1990s as 173 lolas, “grannies” in Tagalog, emerged after decades of shame and silence to demand recognition and justice from the Japanese government. Rizal Day, Dec. 30

The 121st year anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal will be commemorated by the Order of the Knights of Rizal in cooperation of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago and the Ladies for Rizal on Saturday, Dec. 30, 9:00 a.m. with the traditional flower offering and flag ceremony at the Rizal Monument at Margate Park, 4700 N. Marine Drive, Chicago (north of Wilson Ave.).

A dinner cultural program is also scheduled at 6 pm and venue will be announced. Installation of new mebers will be park of the day's program.

World Human Rights Day, Dec. 9

CHICAGO--World Human Rights Day will be held on Saturday, December 9 from 11:30 pm to 2:30 pm at the Hana Center, 4300 N. California Ave. Chicago.
Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10.The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on Dec. 10, 1948 when the racist attrocities committed by Nazi Germany became fully apparent after World War II.

In the Philippines, the number of suspected drug user/pushers that have been reported killed under President Duterte’s “War on drugs” is unprecedented. Catholic Bishops Conference, Human Rights Watch, US Congress Commission on Human Rights are deeply concerned with the killings as violation of universal human rights. The Filipino-American Human Rights Alliace (FAHRA) invites you to join them in protecting the human rights of all people.

Christmas around the world
and Cultural Philippine Dance, Dec. 3

CHICAGO—The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago’s (MSI) is holding its 75th anniversary of Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light. Guests are invited to celebrate dozens of holiday customs with 50 trees and displays, including three new additions, decorated to represent cultures from across the globe. This one-of-a-kind celebration returns to Museum of Science & Industry and will run through January 7, 2018.

At the center of it all stands the 45-foot-tall Grand Tree, adorned with more than 30,000 twinkling lights and ornaments.

Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago and Hinsdale Fil-Am Rondalla will be showcasing the Philippine dances and music at the annual Christmas Around The World program at the Museum of Science and Industries on THE HOLIDAY STAGE in the Auditorium on Sunday, December 3 at 2:45pm. The museum which is open from 9:30am to 5:30pm.
