Niles, Illinois-- Dance Time With Friends (DTWF) raised a net amount of $22,500 from a fundraising drive / dinner dance for the typhoon victims on Jan. 31 at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling, Illinois. This was made possible by the school's owners, Ed & Luming De La Cruz , the students and its generous donors.
Except for the venue, all services and prizes had been donated. DTWF students contributed in various ways such as financially, artistically or by reaching out to people and companies they have dealt with before as prospective donors. Initially, a goal of reaching $10,000 was set. To everyone's delight, the initial goal was exceeded by a wide margin.
The stated net amount will be sent to Caritas Manila – the chosen aid agency in the Philippines through a bank-to-bank electronic transfer.
The Philippine Independence Week Committee (PIWC) is holding its annual Essay Writing Contest on Saturday, May 17 at Wright College (Computer Lab), 4300 Narraganset, Chicago, IL.
Students interested in joining the essay writing contest must be of Filipino heritage (at least one parent) and be enrolled in 7th-12th grade.
An essay of 500 words will be written in English.
There will be a prize money given to first through fourth place winners. Each essayist will receive a $20 bonus on the contest day. Winning essays will be published in a Filipino community periodical.
Prizes will be awarded during the Philippine Independence Day Gala Night/Dinner Ball on Sat., June 7 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare, in Rosemont.

The 9th Ambassadors, Consuls General & Tourism Directors Tour (ACGTDT) to the Philippines will be held on July 28-Aug. 2. The basic tour will be from July 28-31 but an optional out-of-town tour will take place on July 31- Aug. 2.
The basic tour package includes a 4 night stay at Dusit Thani in Manila with daily buffet breakfast, 2 lunches, 2 dinners with special entertainment; lunch at Malacanan Palace with President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, out- of-town day tour to Villa Escudero in Laguna; running tour of Manila and Makati area; visit University of Santo Tomas, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and Ayala Museum.

The celebration of the 53rd anniversary of the Philippine Medical Association (PMAC) in Chicago will be held on Sat., May 10 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont. The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago welcomes the nomination of qualified and worthy candidates for the 2014 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas.
Under the existing guidelines, nominations from the US Midwest have to be sent to the Consulate (Attention: Awards Committee) for review, validation and recommendation by May 15, 2014.
All validated nominations will then be submitted to the Technical Committee in Manila at the Commission on Filipinos (CFO) on or before May 31, 2014.
The Presidential Awards Ceremonies will be held at the Malacañan Palace, Manila by the end of the year.
This biennial event is meant to give highest recognition to meritorious individuals and organizations overseas for their work in the service of the Filipino community or nation, and for their exceptional achievements or excellence in the pursuit of their endeavors.
The awards are divided into four (4) categories, namely, "Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino Award," "Kaanib ng Bayan Award," "Banaag Award," and "Pamana ng Pilipino Award."
