Joe Reyes, Filipino journalist TV pioneer
Mr. Reyes died of a heart attack last May. He was one of the first Filipinos to develop and host Filipino television programs in the Chicagoland area.

Mr. Reyes brought to the Filipino community the first TV programs in Tagalog titled “Philippine Hour.” He was also responsible for  the program “The Philippine Revue” which was a variety show during the 70’s on Channel 26. One of its segments was called Eskwelahang Munti which was designed to teach Fil-Am children their Filipino language.

His efforts were not noticed when he was nominated by the 23rd annual Chicago Emmy Awards in the 1970’s for “Outstanding Achievement for Documentary Programs of Cultural Significance.”

Joe graduated with a degree in Journalism from the University of Santo Tomas.

Joe Reyes was the father of Maria Theresa (Moylan), Maria Victoria (Nery), Malou (Borja), Joe Reyes III, JR Reyes, and Chat Reyes. He was the proud grandfather of Nicole Borja (Kerner).•

Francisco L. Juan, 74
Francisco L. (Toti) Juan died on June 16. He was 74.

He was the husband of Isabel Reyes Juan and loving father to Jimmy, Jovi and Josette. He was grandfather to Taj, Kino and Teo.
Mr. Juan graduated from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management which led to a 45 year career in corporate management and finance. He served as President of MFMCP, a large mutual funds company in the Philippines. Before that he worked in the US as a VP-Treasurer/ Chief Financial Officer for Planmetrics, Inc, a consulting company.

His funeral was at Michalik Funeral Home in Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to Friends of the University of the Philippines Foundation in America (www.fupfa.com).•
