“Eskwelahang Pinoy sa Konsulado”
July 17, 24, & 31, Aug. 7, 2-4 p.m. Are you interested in learning about the Philippine Heritage and culture? A free summer class program is being offered at the RP Consulate General’s office in Chicago. The program aims to teach basic Language, Traditions, Customs, History, Folk Dancing and Cuisine.
The classes are offered on July 17, 24 & 31 and August 7 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Interested participants must fill out a form which can be downloaded from www.chicagopcg.com. Please click on the “Eskwelahang Pinoy sa Konsulado 2010” link under the Press Release at the bottom of the Web site.
The classes are presented by the Philippines Independence Week Committee (PIWC), the Filipino American Council of Greater Chicago, Inc. (FACC), and other Filipino alliances. Classes are at the Kalayaan Hall of the Consulate General’s office which is located at 30 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 2100, Chicago, IL 60602.

4th annual Community Health Fair
August 29, Sunday, 8:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. The FACC and the FACHIC are partnering together to host a Free Health Screening which includes free information and referrals which will be available at the Jose Rizal Heritage Center for Filipinos and other ethnicities without health insurance.
Nearly 300 attendees were present last year. Volunteer doctors and nurses will offer screenings for: cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, prostate (PSA test), osteoporosis, dental, podiatry and much more. Also information on diabetes prevention, heart disease, parenting, nutrition and physician referrals will be given.

“Ang-Pag-Ibig Mo” GK Benefit Concert
Aug. 21, Saturday, 6 p.m., Come see and listen to The Ang PagIbig M: A Philippine Love Cycle Concert which will be held at Evanston, IL. Come listen to this beautiful music benefiting the two charity programs: Bantay Bata 163 program and Gawad Kalinga.
The concert offer swell-loved Filipino love songs which the singers will sing kundimas (Filipino serenades). Mezzo Soprano Clarissa Ocampo, Baritone Andrew Fernando, and world renowned pianist Raul Sunico will entertain you.

Biking Boulevard Laakefront Tour
August 29, Sunday, 7-9:30 a.m., Come and sign up for the annual Boulevard Lakefront Tour offered by the Active Transportation Alliance which is North America’s largest transportation advocacy organization.
You can choose from three different bike routes: the 10-15 mile ride, the 35-mile Boulevard Tour, or the 62-mile route given by the Chicago Cycling Club. If you register before July 4, you may receive a $5 discount. The registration fee offers rest stops offered throughout the bike paths and a free T-shirt. Participants may visit the Goose Island Brewery beer and enjoy the festival which will provide live entertainment.
