June 12, Sat, 7 p.m., The Kasarinlan or celebration of 112th year of Philippine Independence will be held
at the Jose Rizal Heritage Center in Chicago.
Guests will be entertained with an ensemble of musicians called the Rondalla. There will also be an art exhibit of paintings by local Filipino painters and artists titled “Impressionsof the Filipino Artists in a Chicago Setting.” It will showcase the works of artists Kristina Castro, Erbu, Willie Buhay, and Sergio Roca. There will also be an exhibit of donated artifacts. Lastly, is a “Balagtasan” which is a debate by members of the Filipino community.
The attire is Filipiniana Formal and the event cost per person is $35. The Jose Rizal Center is located at 1332 W. Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL.
Noy-Mar win Overseas Absentee tallies
Last May 13, unofficial and partial tallies from Fil-Am Overseas Absentee voters were taken from the three
precincts in the Philippine Consulate in Chicago, IL. Leading in tallies was Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino with 945 votes. Behind him was Gilberto Teodoro, Jr. of Lakas Kampi CMD Coalition with 183 votes. Third was Manny Villar of the Nacionalista Party holding on with 151 votes.
In the lead of vice presidential candidates was Mar Roxas who had 1,076 votes and Fernando F. Bayani of the Bagumbayan trailing with 134 votes. Jejomar C. Binay of the PDP-Laban Party received 111 votes. Topping the senatorial candidates
was Franklin M. Drilon who received 1058 votes, Ralph Recto with 937 votes; Tefisto D. Guingona, III, 803 votes; Sonia M Roco had 730 votesgic.
Four-hundred fifty votes out of the 556 votes in the three precincts were valid votes while 106 were invalid votes.
Young Adult Healthcare
Young Adults up to the age of 26 in Illinois can be added to their parent’s health insurance plan as long as they are unmarried. Also, young adults of military veterans up to the age of 30 are also eligible for being added to their parents’ health insurance plan.
The plan is called Illinois Young Adult Dependent Coverage Law and was signed by President Obama on March 23, 2010. The federal law also creates a requirement for self-insured employer plans to allow young adults to remain covered if the plan offers dependent coverage.
The Affordable Care Act becomes effective for plan years beginning on or after September 23, 2010. To enroll a newly eligible young adult under your policy, please check with your insurance agent, employer or insurance company.
Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park Tour
June 27 – October 24, 1 p.m., The 2010 schedule of free public tours is offered by the Skokie Northshore Sculpture
Park. All tours begin at 1:00 p.m. and will last one hour.
Each month, May through October, the docents feature a different section of the park, located along McCormick Blvd.
between Dempster and Touhy. The park is handicap friendly and no reservations are required. Depending on the weather, hats or umbrellas are suggested. Participants must bring comfortable walking shoes.
Parking is free and convenient, especially for Sections I and IV. Section I is located between Dempster and Main
Streets. Section IV is between Howard and Touhy. Parking for Section II is in the Canoe Launch lot, just east of the
channel off of Oakton.
The Schedule for 2010 is: June 27 is Section II; July 25 is Section IV; August 29 is Section I, September 26 is Section
